Table Makeover

This weekend I decided to get a little crafty and try my hand at this coffee table DIY from beautiful mess. I'm moving in a month and a half and for a while I was in need of a very small dining room table (to match my very small apartment). I found the table you see above abounded on the side of the road in a pile of junk for bulk pick-up.

Right after picking it up I noticed a large crack in that went up the side. (I'm assuming that's the reason the original owners were tossing it out seeing that it was in very good condition otherwise). Fixing the crack was not a big problem I just stopped by home depot and grabbed some wood filler in the closest color I could find. Seeing that I intended on painting it the color wouldn't have to be an exact match.

As you can see the wood filler worked liked a charm. After letting the filler solidify over night I was ready to paint the next day! I taped the lace I picked out for this project specifically. (Bought a yard from a larger bolt for 3.99 and it was more than enough for covering the table & legs).

I was super nervous when I painted and after covering the whole surface I was basically 100% positive that it didn't work... BUT.... IT DID! Peeling off the lace after spray painting was basically the best feeling ever. It made me want to do another similar project immediately after I was done with this one.

At the beginning I only intended on using the lace detail on the table surface, but after I finished I decided that I wanted to add it to the legs as well. It definitely made the whole piece feel more complete. Anyways after covering the top with interior satin polyethylene I was finished and couldn't be more proud of the result!

Unfortunately I won't get any shots of this bad boy in action until August. (It's currently going into storage until I move). But I can't wait to start using it... now what will to do chairs? Seriously though, any good chair DIYs send them my way because I'm definitely on the lookout! Peace.
