At the moment I'm completely obsessed with minimalist movie posters! Seriously there is nothing cuter to me. I also just got off of a Wes Anderson kick where I watched like three of his movies in one sitting. One of these was Moonrise Kingdom. Okay, I have a confession. I was extremely underwhelmed with this movie. Coming off of The Royal Tenembaums and the Darjeeling Limited (my favorite) it just seemed pretty shallow to me as far as the storyline & symbolism went. However, it is an extremely visually satisfying film. So, I forgave the lack of perceived depth and enjoyed the visual eye-candy! I mean seriously, how can you not fall in love with these stills?

The symmetry makes me drool. Like I said, visually breathtaking... It just didn't live up to my expectations as a Wes Anderson film. And Yes, I understand that by not loving this film I have broken the 6th commandment of the Artsy Hipster Bible... My bad. Please, don't throw rocks at me. But to make up for it, here's a minimalist poster I designed based on Sam.

I'm hoping to do many more minimalist posters based on my favorite (or in this case, not so favorite) movies! It's a great way for me to practice my illustration skills (as a student they still need a lot of work) and have an end product that is fun to share! How do you guys feel about the minimalist trend? Clever, or just lazy design?
Peace.
I love this style of poster and would be interested to see what else you come up with. What movies are you thinking of doing?
